All about Lincoln Motor Company A division of Ford Motor Company, Lincoln or Lincoln Motor Company primarily sells luxury vehicles. The US, being its prime market, the Lincoln cars have also found a market niche in the Middle East, South Korea, and China. The current models are two sedans – Continental and MKZ, three crossover utility vehicles – MKC, MKT, MKX, and a sport utility vehicle – Navigator. It was Henry Leland and his son, Wilfred, who founded the Lincoln Motor Company in August 1917, the name given was in honor of Abraham Lincoln, 16th US president. About that time when the company started, World War I broke out and their source of income was through military contracts where they assembled Liberty V12 aircraft engines, using cylinders made by Ford Motor Company, along with other motor companies, like Buick, Cadillac, Marmon, and Packard. Their first automobile was the Lincoln Model which was marketed as a luxury car, competing against other American luxury cars, but at the end of the war, the company shifted entirely for automobile production. After producing 150 luxury cars, the company was forced into bankruptcy and was sold to Ford Motor Company for $8,000,000. While Ford Motor Company was also selling their brand of luxury cars, the company found little acceptance on those cars, but with the acquisition of Lincoln, the nameplate became a top-selling rival along other luxury cars. By the time that Lincoln has been considered a subsidiary of Ford Motor, new Lincoln H-series were made in car versions of sedan, coupe, and limousine and all installed with the Lincoln V12 standard equipment. It was Edsel Ford, co-founder of Ford Motor, who revolutionized the Lincoln’s patent luxury cars and came out with a new, personal luxury car, which was popularly known as Lincoln Continental.
